Assortment Question

I was looking through the Gen 1 Dinobots collection pages and whats with the different assortments? Maybe i am behind the times but i just don't get it.

I'm really as confused as you, but apparently back in the g1 days each wave of toys was assigned a unique assortment number. The number was actually printed on the packaging, along with the product number. So, for the sake of completion, we have a record for each toy in each assortment. If you look very closely at some of the photos you can see the differing assortment numbers. That's about all I know; hopefully some of our more knowledgeable members will chime in with more information.

lol wife will love that answer when i try to complete a collection. I can just here it now "but hun don't you have him?" "No babe, this is a different assortment." Lol. I was really just curious, and it is good info to have. Thank you for answering.
