Title: Signature Builder Thingy
Post by: shmax on February 09, 2013, 02:30:50 PM
Hey folks, I finally finished the new dynamic signature creation tool. If you log in and go to the "Your Dynamic Signature" page, in addition to the stock sig, you will now have the option to "Create new Signature". This will spawn a little form that will let you tweak colors, content, add a custom message, and yes, even upload your own background image (any size will work, but for best results use something at least 500 x 160). You can make as many of these as you like, so you can make a really complex one for sites that don't have a limit, or a trimmed-down sparse one for sites that are more fussy about size (such as tfw2005).

Here's a few I made just now:

Have fun with this, and please post your creations in this thread. After a week or two, I will award the first three signature #'s (currently reserved by me) to the most creative entries, which you can use to impress girls in bars, or more likely, other dweebs.

Nice work, shmax. If I add a custom message, there seems to be an extra space before the first word on the first line.

Since we have the builder there now, the "compact" link/preview/size is no longer present.

Right, that mechanic is now deprecated. You can make your own "compact" sig by simply unchecking "Collection".

Post your sig and I'll take a look.

I too appreciate Shmax's hard work so I came up with a way to help him out. Check out this post.

What font is being applied to the generated text of these signatures? I miss the "For more details...." footer so I want to put it in my pic.

What's the recommended image size for the background? And will the images that we upload be scaled if they're too big/small?

Thanks for that!  I'll have more fun with one to use here at some point, but having one to fulfill TFW's stingy requirements is nice  :)

Ah, I guess that got switched off somehow. Should I turn it back on for everybody?

I made my image the same dimensions of the existing signature. 500x160

The link that you copy from the sig page is set up so that if someone clicks on it, it should go to your collection page. You can't test it here since if you click the signature image, it just opens it in the image viewer.  ::)

Font was Arial. I'm cool with it off. It still functions. I happen to find an old sig cached on google so that's where I got the exact verbage to add into my pics.

Weird...I saved your image and tried creating a new signature using that image and it worked for me.

The dreaded question: which browser are you using?

Have any of you guys tried any of these sigs in the wild, yet? I tried using one of mine over on allspark.com, and I got an error along the lines of "dynamic images not allowed". Evidently, it was complaining about the ?sig=1 portion of the sig url. Sigh, blocked at every turn. I guess I'll have to create pretty URLs.

I'm using mine at Tformers and AHA (a private forum). Maybe TFW, I can't remember.
