Do you think you can at least come up with a photo for each one? I'm not sure if loose names alone are enough for taggers to identify each toy. Really, I'd rather approach this methodically. A lot of these categories are going to be either missing, or require faction symbols. What kind of reference do you have?

Listen, I was thinking it over while I was brushing my teeth and wishing I was asleep, and I don't think the time is right for the add-all-the-names blitzkrieg. There are two reasons:

1. Once an item is entered into the database, it can only be modified by an admin. This will change in a week or two after I write a mountain of code, but for now that would mean that I would be in charge of filling in all those blanks.

2. It sort of defeats the purpose of the "Recent Additions" list. The list is there so that folks can look over what's been added since they were last there, and tag what they like. If it's just a list of loose names, all they'll really be able to do is shrug and wander away.

What do you say we just take them one at a time for now, and really make sure that each one at least has a picture, and release date info? Other folks will join us in our quest--I never intended for all the work to get dumped on any one poor soul.

I've actually got a box of old G1 toys myself out in the garage--I think what I'll do is buy a nice lightbox and start taking photos of them. Between us, I'll bet we can make a pretty good dent in that list over the next few weeks.

And now, I've REALLY gotta go to bed!

Well to coin a frase "you gotta start somewhere"

And i for one would love to get started on the G1 section
i would like to have that checklist/wishlist done even if we dont have a single pic in the base yet we can allways run in there and add the pics
In later but wrighting in the names will help out when we start showing off our collection sigs it would look alot better than showing G1 only have 5 entrys and peple can show up start taging there collection and seeing we need a pic of Astrotrain in box add one for us

which brings be to one other issue what starts to happen if 4 diffrant ppl turn in pics of Astrotrain lose?? who gets to deside on witch one to use? You by your self?? a commity?? or what if you pick one and someone comes by later on with a much better pic?

More good questions. Currently, the system will only accept one entry of a particular name per category. So, if someone adds an entry for Astrotrain in the "triplechangers" category, then no one else will be able to add a new entry for Astrotrain to that category.

When a new item has been added, it is flagged as "pending" until an admin gets a chance to have a look at it (and can verify it's not full of spambot data or other nonsense). Pending items are visible to the user that entered it, but no one else. Currently I'm the only admin, but omce things stabilize a bit more I'll be deputizing some of you hard-core types for admin duty.

The sticky part, which I mentioned in my last post, is that for now, only an admin can modify items once they've been approved (I think that you can still modify pending items). This will definitely change, but requires a hell of a lot of work on my part. Maybe I'll put that near the top of the list--sounds like we're gonna need it.

So, given all that, and the fact that the site is still in beta (and only has a handful of members), I still feel like our best approach is not rush anything--I mean at least wait until you've had a chance to see what ya think of the "add" form.

Tell ya what, let's set a goal of 10 or 20 G1 entries for today. You can enter them in with as much info as you like, or even just the name, so you'll get the submission credit, and I'll do my best to clean up after ya by adding photos and whatever other info I can find. So by the end of the day, we'll have a nice big addition to the database, but we won't be in over our heads. Sounds good?
