As I mentioned before, I've been cataloging several of my Transformers. Now I've come into a conundrum for placement of this particular one. I have a MOSC Generation 1 Rewind/Steeljaw. Here are the two categories in which I could place them:

North America > Generation 1 > Cassettes > Assortment 2 > a (gold weapons)
North America > Generation 1 > Cassettes > Assortment 2 > b (silver weapons)

Here's the conundrum.... Rewind has the silver weapons, but Steeljaw has the gold weapons.

Should I just pick one and call it a day? Or does a new entry need to be added? I guess mine best matches the gold weapons with the assortment # matching as 5733. This is opposed to the assortment number for the silver weapons which has 5734 for the assortment #.

Here is an image for reference:

Wow...I can't say I've ever seen a mixture of the two weapon types on one card before.  Let me dig around a bit to see if I can come up with any corroborating info.  You're sure that's is factory-sealed and not a reseal, right?

What is the assortment number on your MOSC specimen?

I also saw your entry for the no grey border Mirage...I also read that Jazz came in a similar box, and that these are the earliest versions of the two figures.

Any chance that any of the other first run Autobot cars also lack the grey borders?  I've only read about Jazz and Mirage so far...

Everything I see about it tells me it is still factory sealed. And it is authentic American release, not a Chinese G1 issue. Otherwise BigBadToyStore owes me a refund!

The product/assortment # reads 5934G / 5733, same as the regular gold weapons set.

I guess mine would be the rarest find, huh?

It's possible several of the earliest releases had no grey border. I found an AFA Trailbreaker with no grey border here on ebay:

I think I remember one of the Hartman brothers posting someplace about the early jets, among others, coming without the grey border.

Another mystery variant! This is really the week for them, isn't it? I'll leave it up to you guys to settle, but I just wanted to offer a few comments. First, if you decide that this toy is just an odd "one-off" variant (ie. some assembly line manager had a spare silver weapon on his desk that he wanted to get rid of) that doesn't really warrant its own record, I wanted to mention that in the very near future I'll be setting up a "gallery" for package records as well (like we already have for figures). Once I get that going, one "solution" would be for us to simply add a photo of your toy to the gallery for the regular gold-weapons SKU, complete with explanatory caption. That way we'd sort of have documentation of this oddity without really putting it in the system (so people trying to "collect them all" won't bash their heads into the wall looking for it). We could prove it happened "for the record", but not have to sweat people bitching about it not being a "real" release.

Or you could just add it as a "variant" as usual to the gold weapons category.

Also, I wanted to mention that I fixed the bug that was causing Kenucme's flash-sig to not show up! Enjoy.

kenucme,

Those combiners you listed with the decoys...do you own those and can verify them?

There was a transition from rubsign indent to non-rubsign indent at some point in 1987 and I just want to confirm that BOTH the rubsign AND non-rubsign versions of the Terrorcons (and for that matter, the Technobots) were available with the decoys.

Mike

It's funny.... I got further down the line cataloging and was working on my one Technobot. It didn't fit nicely into the listed category. So I decided to come back to the forums.

On to your question first. Yes, I double checked my three Terrorcons and verified what they are. Once I saw they didn't fit the listings provided, I created the new records. You'll see that I removed the ones I had previously in my collection list, and changed them over to the new created records.

Now to my question. Strafe here http://www.shmax.com/package_details/18 ... gn_indent_ matches the one I have. The website listing shows the product/assortment # to be 5873 / 5723. Mine has a product/assortment # of 5873 / 5716. Is the listing a possible error?

Thanks, Ken

Thanks for the info.  And yep I think you're right...that would bump the non-rubsign indent Technobots into the same assortment as the Seacons...which might push them into an '88 release...can you check the date on yours?  I realize that packaging dates and release dates don't always jive, but is it '87 or '88?

Feel free to PM if you like...we'll get this ironed out.  :-)
