Go get 'em, DJKev! You may have noticed that the forums are a little less lively than we'd like. Until things pick up (sigh), I have a few suggestions for you and your data quest. I guess my main tip is to use eBay. For vintage toys, sellers will sometimes take close-up pics of the box, and if you're lucky you can get a good enough look at the UPC and product/assortment numbers to make them out. Here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/1984-Transformers-G ... 308wt_1165

You can juuust make out the UPC. Another slightly dirty trick is to simply email a seller and ask him for the UPC and product/assortment numbers, explaining what they are and what they look like. Most of the time they'll reply with the info. It's up to you how honest you want to be--I sometimes mention the site, sometimes not. Sellers can be pretty grouchy, so use your own judgment.

Next, I was going to point you to http://topdaz.com/star-wars-stuff/index.php, as they're a wrapper for amazon.com that happens to show the UPC's, but I see now that their search functionality seems to be broken.

Finally, I'll mention that a while back I wrote my own interface to amazon.com that lets you run searches and displays the UPC's (for some reason Amazon itself doesn't do this). For the moment it's hidden away in the moderator tools because it's very crude, but if you're interested I can see about exposing it for you somewhere so you can make use of it. Just say the word!

I have lucked out with a few things on ebay and I have even contacted a few people.  I go with the I'm interested  but want to make sure i dont have it already line.  Ussually works but I try and save that for a last resort.  I coppied the list and posted it over at seibertron (who just fixed there image library so i need go hunting in it again) and over in the official collector club forum.  I tried to make a list of some of the more common hard to find things to see if i could get anyone to bite.  Sadly no one has had any info but at least i didnt get flamed off the boards.

I'm gonna wait on the amazon tool for now I am mainly just kinda grabbing a small list up here and there and hitting sites and search engines till I get something.  I havent hit the wall totally so its still moving forward but there will come a point when I think that will be a big help.

Hey there, just wanted to mention that I came across another Amazon.com-wrapper site that shows the UPCs for stuff:

http://www.toyandgameplanet.com/shop.php

I even filled-in a few UPCs for ROTF stuff. Enjoy!

Also--and we'll have to ask Ed about this--isn't it fairly safe to assume that the UPCs and product/asst codes for those vintage g1 variants are the same as the originals?

I'm not sure...the UPC *might* have changed from one to the other for some of them like the gestalt limb Special Teams...the Autobot cars, I *think*, but again - I can't be sure, kept the same UPC from variant to variant.

Also, as I understand it, the Ratchet with roof cross was ONLY mailaway, so there may not even BE an associated UPC.  I don't recall any packaging from my mailaway Downshift.

Ratchet was available in a regular-style box in both roof cross and non-roof cross variants.

http://www.reocities.com/futuristgroup/ ... ml#ratchet

Also avaiable in rubsign/non-rubsign versions, if I'm not mistaken.

Downshift, and the rest of the Omnibots, I believe came in a plastic bag and a cardboard mailing box.
