Appraisal Experiment #3:
- now mixing auction and collection data points together when determining appraisal values
- some long-promised statistical analysis: discarding any data points that are more than 2 x the standard deviation off the mean, and only use the data if we have a sample size of 8 or more data points
- replaced the two appraisal tables on the product details page with one

shmax

- changed the labels on the appraisal table on product details pages ("afa"/"misb"/"mib"/"loose" to "graded"/"sealed"/"opened"/"loose")
- got rid of the "unknown" row from the appraisal table (even I didn't really understand it)

how come items like this: http://www.shmax.com/product_details/9435/aerial_team_appendage_add_on_kit, where I have entered a price, still doesn't show any appraisal data?

Thanks for your work again...

Appraisal Experiment #4:
- if no reliable appraisal data can be found for an item in your collection, then use your 'price paid' information if it is greater than 0

Well, there you finally have it. This means that as long as you enter 'price paid' for every item in your collection, you will always have a reasonably reliable appraisal valuation. Note that this information will only apply to YOUR item--everybody else will still get nothing until we accrue 8 or more data points.

Can I get a 'Whoa, Bundy'?

Ah, because we only have 6 data points. I trained the system to only pay attention when there are 8 or more to work with. But, with the changes I just checked in you should now see the price you paid as the 'value' on your collection page.

whoa bundy... my collection value just jumped 3 fold! There can't be so much missing data, can there be?

And mine just decreased by a third...I liked the first number a helluva lot better.

My most expensive item was the Shattered Glass set...at $1825.  Now, when I view my collection, sorted by current value (highest first), it's only valued at $450 - the price I paid for the set, even though there's a valid, completed eBay auction that is valued at $1825.

Shouldn't a valid eBay data point override my price paid?

Speaking of eBay, there are some auctions for this item that are getting missed for some reason (search "Botcon Shattered Glass" or "Botcon Shattered Glass Set"):

Just the Optimus from the set is valued at $550, so...yeah...

Also, the Games of Deception set...currently valued at $279 on shmax:

Now converting the foreign currencies. Hopefully your appraisal value has still gone up from where it was before, but it apparently didn't happen for everyone...
