Edit "current value unknown"?

So I'm new to the website, and I just recently threw in my collection. Loving it so far.

Anyways, for valuations... is there any way I can edit some of my figures to include a rough estimate of their current value? I just bought MP Soundwave and the site doesn't know how much it's worth, so I'd like to ballpark it around $200 and have that be included in (or next to) my "Worth at least" sidebar. I'd think it would be cool to keep track of this, and/or keep it separate (obviously some people can scam this and overvalue their collection -- so my choices shouldn't affect any one else's) so that I can get a decent approximation of the total value of my collection.

Obviously I can do this myself in the exported Excel file, but I was hoping to have the option here.

Thanks!

 Welcome aboard.
I'm a fellow user and big fan of the site. First off, Lucky dog! I've hear MP SW is amazing.

That data will eventually become available. The product is still really new. I'm not sure of the time frame or conditions but once enough of them have been entered into the system and have floated around ebay it will fill that value. I'm not sure if time is a factor. Some one else will prob give more details but there are a few products that do not have that field filled yet.

Right, but I've got a good 75 items or so with no valuation, mainly a bunch of loose figures. And for whatever reason the site thinks my most valuable item is MP-1 with box (at $377) when I know that number is more than 2x overvalued. I'd rather have my own values for some if not all of them.

Welcome msol.

Yeah, this feature needs some work. Apparently their is a huge overhaul coming, which *may* contain changes to this.

The way it's supposed to work is that if the only value we have for an item is the "price paid" that you yourself supplied, then it should echo that number back to you as the "value" for the item, and only to you. If that's not working, then I'll have to fire up the 'ol debugger. Please provide a link to a page in your collection that is displaying the behavior, and I'll get on it. Thanks much, and welcome aboard.

another way to get the data a bit more normalized is to have

OPENED items be appraised with all SEALED/GRADED items that are under the curve
LOOSE items be appraised with all OPENED/SEALED/GRADED items that are under the curve

that should help the MP-01 auction. http://www.shmax.com/product_details/1252/convoy

Thanks for the response, shmax!

http://www.shmax.com/view_collection/650/2675  this shows my MP-1 at the bottom of the page. When I delete the listing, my total value drops by $377.51, not the $150 I listed.

Looking at the MP-1 link Wajo357 posted, it looks like 2 datapoints completely skew the loose price. I think I should technically change mine to Opened, since I still have the box.

Anyways... could the issue be the fact that I paid for it sealed, but it's currently loose? Though I think in a situation like that it should default to the current market price, no?

Bingo. It looks like we simply don't have any data points for people that bought it loose (including yourself), which isn't too surprising given its newness, and the fact that not as many shmax'ers are as diligent about entering "price paid" data as we would like.

Should it? I haven't looked at the code in a while, but I think what we do is fall-through to the value for the next-best condition if nothing else is available. So for example, if we don't have any data for "sealed" condition, but we do have data for "opened", then we'll use that.

I suppose the whole system could use another pass, but it's a lot better than it used to be.

What I mean is that I bought MP-1 MISB when it came out, I paid $150 for it -- then I opened it. So I have it as purchased condition (sealed) then current condition (loose).

As for the current value -- I figure most collectors that purchase a TF open it, so it usually winds up losing value. That should be reflected for the aggregate price. Sometimes they gain value, especially most G1s, but think about something like Energon or BW. I doubt I could get sticker price for many of those if I tried to sell them today.

Are you suggesting that I try to guess what an opened toy would be worth based on general trends within a toyline? That sounds reasonable, but I'm sort of burned-out on the appraisal code (I did a big overhaul a few months ago). I think what I want to do for now is focus on the toyline expansion effort I've been trying to get to forever, and see if our user base expands enough to bolster the appraisal data and lessen the need for fancy heuristics.

@msol
I keep all of my packaging, and I was in a similar spot. I was told that if I have the boxes and the product was complete it would qualify as opened instead of loose. Heck I even have most of the little twist ties and receipts also. So, if you look at my collection, you'll see I have 64% opened and just under 2% loose. I only have 2 or 3 loose figures. (Hyper hobby magazine 2007 movie clear legions Bumblebee and a couple of Market Six Spy Changers. I may even have the cards to the MCs but I haven't confirmed it so I think I have them labeled as loose.)
