I haven't talked about the new profile page in a while, but I finally finished it a few months ago. I haven't launched it yet because I just can't decide what the access level should be. This isn't some coy tactic to raise interest, I honestly don't know. I know that sites like Facebook and Twitter keep profile pages restricted to registered users, but they tend to have private information to protect, whereas with us it's just a list of your toys. True, the old view collection page has been public all this time and no one has complained, but I just want to make sure I consider all the angles carefully before I get in over my head. One thing I can guarantee is that every single one of you has more experience with social sites than I do, so please cast your vote in the poll, or just jaw it over with us in this thread. Thanks, guys.

There can be more options. I would vote for:

Default: Set it so the summary (what data shows up in the animated signature) to be the public viewable profile. For logged in users, show full profile.

However, give the user the ability to change what the default public/logged in profile views are. Either summary, full profile or show nothing. In the future, maybe even allow users to have a private profile but make it available to viewing only to those who are in their friend's list. You probably could use the friend list that is part of the forum.

I know there are collectors out there that do not like to make their collection (or full extent thereof) public, so allowing the option to choose may benefit some existing users, and possibly even want others to consider joining up that have resisted due to how "open" the current system is.

Default is Privilaged, with the user option to be private.  That's my vote.

I'm sure there are collectors with awesome, expensive collections or items that don't want to be known, but want to use this comprehensive index to track what they own.

I really don't like random people looking at my collection or knowing what I have.

Great, guys, just what I was looking for, thanks. I like the idea of showing sort of a digest or highlights page to the public, but keeping the rest privileged or private--I've added an option to the poll. I've also attached a screenshot to the original post, so that folks know what we're talking about.

Sounds great Shmax!
I can't change my vote but your summary sounds idea.
Great work as always.

All about user options to me; small optional summary for public viewing and the rest is left to the user how much they want to put out there.

Sounds pretty reasonable. Only a few of you have chimed in, but those of you that have seem to be thinking along the same lines.

I voted fo rthe last option, but I don't mind showing the full thing to the public either. Is there a "full public" option with the privacy controls as well?

Hmm, I suppose there's no harm in making "public" one of the preferences settings.
