Installed the long-promised new forums (we've switched to Simple Machines from phpbb3). I believe I was able to successfully save all the old posts, user avatars, and stuff like that. It was a pretty big change that involved me meddling with every little piece of the site, so as always please be on the lookout for bugs.
While I was at it, I fixed a few issues:
- fixed the download collection page such that the checkmarks and other widgetry work again
- fixed the links in the "news" portlet on the home page
One nice bonus of the forums is that due to the way they structure their schema, I was able to directly grab all of the first posts from the "Photo of the Day" forum, meaning that we no longer rely on those posts being "stickied", so all the weird issues with them appearing and vanishing strangely from the home page should be gone.
And finally, I believe that this work should have fixed the issue with users being logged out every 24 hours.
And so on. I hope you guys dig the new forums. Whaddya think, are they an improvement?
