When it calculates total value, what is it calculating?

I admit I was looking at some other collections of people whose names I recognized to see how they stacked up against mine.

And I have two questions about the way it's calculating.  Are the current values manually entered or from some sort of feed?  When a MISB price is missing, does it fall back to MSRP?

They're computed from auction data.

No, but I've been meaning to do that for years. I've put in a lot of work on the appraisal system, but even now it's still a little half-baked. I need to modify it to default to "price paid" values from collection data when no auction data is found (and to MSRP when that fails), improve the price history presentation, on and on. I'll get to it, hang in there.

Instead of creating a new thread,  I thought I'd just add my question here:  if there are items in my collection that are currently selling on eBay (multiple completed sales ) shouldn't the current value of my collection automatically adjust to reflect those new sales?  The value of my collection has been essentially stagnant since I joined.

It should definitely be fluctuating. If it really is just sitting there and doing nothing, then something is probably broken. Sigh. Why don't you post this as a new thread in the bugs forum, and I'll get to it when I can. Thanks much...

I know I've personally have been making it a point to find my old receipts / packing invoices to put what I've paid for an item. I would like to have the option to show what I've paid for my collection. I know it would help me with get some insurance on my collection.

I'd have to imagine that number would scare more people than be helpful - lol. For now you can always download your collection and do a sum function in excel for the price paid columns...

Thank you I was not aware of what that "Download Collection" actually did.  ;)

Makes sense to me. For people who would rather keep such information private, I can make sure it respects the "Show price paid?" option on the preferences page.
