I may have asked this before and if so I'm sorry but, what about a date received listing for items purchased thru mail order / ebay. If I order something today than that's the purchase date but I won't physically own it till it gets here.

I'm using the comments box for info like that now, and granted I don't do alot of non-physical shopping but my logic is that if there is a piece of info that I'm putting in the comments on a regular basis than I feel it may be repetitive enough to warrant an actual field of it's own.

How is everyone else managing these details? Do you not submit the toy to your collection till it gets to you or are you using the comments section like I am?

Or, am I just too nerdy for my own good? :-)

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm not personally too crazy about adding more date widgets to the collection interface, but there has been some talk about adding a tagging feature. So, as you say, a commonly repeated "comment" could be converted to a tag, and applied to a collected item. Then, when you want to re-add that tag, you could choose it from an auto-complete list and save some typing. Would that satisfy what you have in mind?

Yes and no. I do like the tagging idea ALOT and I would def use the heck out of it but, in this situation, I would still just be adding dates in another spot so the comments is just as good as any.

For the most part I usually just put where I purchased an item in the comments and I will be quick to turn those into tags so tagging will help clear the comments a bit but it still leaves me with 2 dates and only 1 of them being "official"

Really the only other comments I make are either regarding price,  (like "original price 10.99, 40% bogo") or date  ("put on layaway xx/xx/xxxx")

in the layaway situation I set purchase date as the day I bring it home. I'll just do the same with ebay stuff. I need to look at my BBTS G2 Bruticus and see how I did that one. (It was my 2nd online purchase ever. 1st was Classics/Universe Blaster [cybertron soundwave repaint] from HasbroToyShop.)

I love the idea of tags, it just doesn't really solve this situation. It's not a deal breaker by any means I just figured I toss it out there and see what happens. I completely understand not wanting to add more widgets.

BTW. last I knew, there was talk of a new collection page or a re-design or something, are you guys still moving forward on that? or do we keep bugging you too much about the current one for you to make any headway? I don't expect squat on the holidays, I imagine you all have lives. I was just wondering if I should bother you all for the next few weeks about current stuff if we're about to get something new? We can always poke holes in that one for you instead.

lol. Just kidding, you know I love this place :-)  Thanks for everything you all have done. Oh, and Happy Holidays to you all.

Yes! It was stalled for a little while while I worked on the currency issues, and before that I was sort of stuck, but Engledogg and I managed to work out some design issues and it's back on track. So the good news is that it's coming along really well and is mostly done. The bad news is that there is still quite a bit of work to do, and it's really quite complicated from an engineering perspective, so there will be a lot of testing for the mods and I to do. Hard for me to give an ETA, but I hope to have something for the mods to start testing by the end of the year, and we'll probably launch the rest of it sometime in January.

After that, I'll probably take a break from the heavy lifting and catch up on a few feature requests (like the tagging idea), and after that has had a chance to settle we can revisit some of these date issues you've brought up.

And yes, the old view/edit collection/wishlist pages will be going away, so I wouldn't bother expending much of your energy on them.

:-) Thanks Max. I really enjoy and appreciate the level of detail in your responses. So many people give such simple answers. I feel validated in the sense that even though I may not always get the answer I want, at least I know why and that satisfies me greatly.

I've always hated, "because I said so", or just flat out yes or no. Weak answers like that typically come from weak people. Weak, in that it leaves me feeling like they possibly don't know the real answer themselves so they give you the weak answer.

If all else fails you have fantastic customer service skills. lol. Keep up all of the great work you're doing. Alot of people may not realize what really goes into even the simplest web site more or less a beast like this. I do, and I want you guys to know it's very appreciated.

Thanks again max and engeldogg. You both have been very kind and helpful to me, and thorough with that help on top of it. I'm so glad I stumbled across shmax.com

No problem, Antron007. You're just the kind of guy we like to have around here. If I could, I would clone you a hundred times over. Happy New Year, buddy.
