I know that Shmax isn't a recognized authority on collection appraisal, so how would I go about getting my collection appraised for insurance purposes? I know this question has come up before over the years on other forums, but I'd like to hear how some of you guys have done it.

Hey, standing right here!

No offense, but wouldn't my insurance company laugh at me? And besides they always want to send out "their guy."

... I think the term they used was to find an expert to consult... funny, I thought I was an expert. I guess that doesn't count either.

So what did you eventually find out, Trip? I've fooled around with a few online renter's insurance quote pages, and as far as I can tell you simply choose an amount to be insured for, and there doesn't seem to be any appraising involved. Maybe it comes later.

Oh I recently got this done. Yep I just picked a coverage amount and that equals x monthly payment. The rates (for me) are pretty low as I got it in addition to car insurance.
