[wrap=left:4q4kjzve][/wrap:4q4kjzve]Today's photo features the Decepticon commander, Galvatron as he appears in  the Universe line.  Fans were initially thrilled to find out that Galvatron was going to appear in Universe, but were less than impressed when he arrived as a deluxe.  Initially planned as a Voyager class toy, some believe that the mighty Decepticon tyrant was demoted in size because there were too many larger tanks in Universe.  In a bit of irony, one of the smallest names in G1, Dropshot, received the Voyager class treatment for Universe, while Galvatron, one of the largest G1 figures, had to make due with his $10 price-point body.  Thanks a lot, Unicron...looks like you shrank him in the wash.

My problem with this toy isn't so much the size, it's the fact that what they really did was shrink the original mold they had created which was to be a triple changing voyager, cut out half the parts for the third mode and called it a day. As a result it's loose as heck, falls apart and still has a few WTF parts left over that do nothing like the stupid feet that come out of the treads and the flip up hook in his shoulder. It's just crappy, 2nd rate engineering ruining what would otherwise have been a cool toy in it's own right. Most of the mold issues can be fixed with the superglue trick but still... bulljive.

Wasn't it initially supposed to have some type of "walking" tank mode?

I never understood the "too many large tanks" argument.  They kept Galvatron out of the voyager class because of this, and then months later, whoops, here's Overload...another large tank.

Oh well, I think the only reason Overload exists is because Hasbro knew they were going to be creating Flak for the club and figured, "well hell, while we have the mold out, let's make another mass release guy from this mold while we're at it."

I vote triple-changing Galvatron voyager for Universe "3.0".

Yeah. They even released the original paper designs for it. Looks a little ridiculous once you take away the awesomeness that is artistic intent.

The whole "too many tanks: was a frickin cop out on so many levels. 1) What's more important- a 1st tier character post TFTM or a bunch of Micromasters no one really cares about? Besides that, dude, keep Micromaster "micro", man. Make them Minicons and be done with it. 2)Dropshot and Overload? I mean, really? 3)Two tanks hardly constitutes as too many in my book 4)Those two tanks are repaints OF THE SAME MOLD WHICH WAS RELEASED IN THE LAST MAIN LINE!

Seriously, marketing guy needs to be fired.
