Hello people, I have just started collecting TransFormer models and found this site, which is a brilliant source of information.

I was wondering if you could help me categorize a Megatron model I got hold of yesterday for £1.99 in The Entertainer toy store, it looks the same size as Legend models, but it was polybagged and the tag is from the time of the first live action movie.  It looked to me like the kinda thing I'd expect in a goodie bag or free with a magazine, or maybe a vending machine.

I have taken 2 pictures of the model, as robot and craft, and it looks like this

On the tag there was the number 82941 83723.507 Asst

Can anyone shed any more light on this for me please?

Thanks in advance to the help you good people can give me  8)

I did a search for that product number (you can just type it into the search field at the top of the page) and turned up this guy:

http://www.shmax.com/package_details/265/Megatron

However, the assortment number doesn't match. Until Engledogg or one of the other experts logs in and solves the mystery, how about showing us a picture of this tag you speak of?

Yeah, a pic of the package would really help.  I'm unaware of any poly-bagged Movie figures...so this is a new one to me.  Were there any other figures packaged like this?

That definitely looks like the Legends Megatron fig from the first movie...hmm...any UK'ers around that might wanna chime in on this one?  :-)

Hi there,

Here is the tag I mentioned,

The store I got the model from was The Entertainer in Basingstoke, Hampshire UK and they had 2 boxes of this type of model polybagged (and had mini instruction sheet which I seem to have misplaced)
I have never seen any TransFormers models done like that before, which is why it caught my eye, I should be going back into town tomorrow or over the weekend, I'll see if I can get more details from the store.

Cooll...can you take a pic of the other side of the tag?

Are there any markings/stampings on the toy itself?

Let us know any other details you're able to come up with.

Thanks again,
MIKE

Indeed, we're intrigued by this. Do they have any more still-sealed units at the store? How many different toys were available in this packaging? Unfortunately we have a bit of a gap in our database when it comes to UK releases, so we're eager for any and all information we can get about these toys. Thanks so much for sharing, and please show us a shot of the back of the tag!

Apologies for delay been out and about and now have the Legends Constructicon, yay!

Anyways, I have had a closer look at this model and the only markings I could see were on the legs "2006 Hasbro" and "Takara 2006 China" (left and right respectively) and that was it.

I did go back into the store, and they have boxes of them still...ALL Megatron!  All of them are polybagged and have a small sheet of instructions (I still cannot find my sheet, think I need to buy another one, not bad at £1.99 a piece!).  I did try to ask a member of staff if they had any more out the back but they were a tad arrogant, I will try again tomorrow when the manageress is in.

Here is the back of the tag, sorry it's torn, was a tad difficult to open the package!

Okay...plugging that UPC into Google, I got a few bits of info.  Apparently, Barricade and Optimus Prime were also available bagged, like this Megatron.

Check it out:

Nicely sleuthed, Ed. Well, I guess we'll have to find a place to put records for these in the database. Any interest in taking some higher-fidelity reference photos for the site, Yamerias?

I'm not very good at taking pictures, but I'll give it a go....what exactly to you need/do I need to do?

Went back in there today, and they have 4 boxes of this Megatron, and no other model (asked them to check out the back in case)

Well, it's a bit involved, but it's a lot of fun and we'd love it if you would become a regular contributor, as we've been looking for a knowledgeable UK member for a long time. Here's a tutorial:

http://www.shmax.com/Photo_Guidelines#photo_tutorial

If that all seems like too much effort and expense, I'd be interested in buying one of those toys (or the whole set, if possible) if you wouldn't mind shipping it to me, so I can do the photo myself.

You say there are 4 boxes of this toy at the store--does the box give any indication as to what this "line" of toys should be called? I don't necessarily mean just "legends", or "Transformers: The Movie" but something like "Legends Bagged Asst.", or something that we can use to identify this category of toy in our database.

Thanks so much!

I'll give it a go no worries, as for "knowledgeable" UK collector, I have only really just started collecting them, but I'm happy to try and help any way I can.

As for the box, I had a look on it and could not see anything describing what they were supposed to be, however the design was of the time of the 2007 movie.  It's niceto know I have found something that seems to be a tad unusual, as abuddy of mine here in the UK who collects never heard of them either and he has been collecting for a while!

Awesome! We'll look forward to what you come up with! We're here to help in any way we can with your photo set up. Be sure to look at the tutorial and the "Shutterbug Club" in the forums for lots of great tips and ideas.

Nice work Ed, thanks much! I went in there and added a separate category for the baggies, as they have different assortment numbers. All we gotta do now is wait for Yamerias to come up with photos...
