I've been working on adding my transformers to the data base but have noticed a few discrepancies. it seems that many toys have  a Higher "loose" value than an "open" value. I thought that Open was MIB but not sealed. I have the backings or boxes for most of my items (everything they came with except receipt). am i doing this wrong?

Well, there's not always any guarantee that there are enough data points for the appraisal data to flesh out properly. It could be that we have one fluke loose auction that happens to have a higher price than the steady average "open" value. It could also be that the auction matching algorithm is having trouble with a particular toy and is erroneously matching "loose" auctions for a more valuable item to the one you're looking at and throwing everything off. Why don't you post a few links to the wonky products you've found and I'll take a peek when I get a chance.

Okay I found a few. Hope it helps.

Out of curiosity, why did you link to part pages instead of product pages? (ie http://shmax.com/product_details/277/jetfire) Could it be that you weren't aware they exist? If so, I'm really doing something wrong.

Anyway, I looked over a few of these. In the case of Jetfire, we only have scant data points for the "opened" condition, and plenty of "loose" data points, so it's one of those flukes. Similar situations for the others.

In the next few months I hope to do some work on the appraisal system such that thin auction data will be supplemented where possible by the user's "price paid" collection data, and hopefully then everything will even out a bit more. Thanks for the report!

Ha ha! I see the info now. I just didn't look at the side bar. I've only just joined as a member so I'm a little unsure how to use most of the site.  I'll add a few of my own dates/prices If I can find the recipets. Maybe that will help you out with some of your data.

Sure, that would be great. Just to be clear, there are two kinds of "prices" on the site: there's the "MSRP", which is part of the product record and visible under the "release info" section on a product's details page, and there's the "price paid" data, which is particular to a toy you own and is entered through the collection UI (the blue bar that appears when you click "add to my collection"). Got it?

Regarding the price graph.... could it start 1 month before the release date of the figure?
Right now it kinda shows the past 4-5 months.... but I'd love to see the whole rise and fall of a figures value since it was available.
Just curious.

I've love to do that, but I think I need to come up with a more sophisticated way of displaying the data. What you suggest would work well for some toys, but other items that have been very active on eBay for years would create a dense, unreadable mess of points (some of them are pretty unreadable as it is). I'll include a re-implementation of the history presentation as part of my planned appraisal system upgrade. Thanks, Tusko.

You are too good to me!!

I'm just thinking of a stock picker tool..... you can pick the range, or between specific dates.... Dunno how Google Finance does it, but its fun to pick a period and look for seasonality etc.

Sure, it's doable, it'll just take a lot of work and rejiggering. It's on my list, but I don't expect to get to it for several months, at least.

Is it just me, or does that graph always just show data from 2011 on it?

shmax

Yeah, the eBay stuff is apparently still pretty broken. I'll get to it when I can. Thanks, Trip.

Closing, as most of this discussion is around eBay price plotting, which has been removed.
