again and
again, when so many others are doomed to obscurity? Take the subject of today's featured photo,
Raindance. Engledogg's skillfully rendered photo depicts a toy that appeared back in 1988 as part of the original Generation 1 run of
cassette toys, and was never seen again. But why not? I mean look at it, it's a cassette tape that transforms into a
jet! On a scale of 1 to awesome that's gotta be at least an 8. Of course, conceptually Raindance raises a few troubling questions. If a giant Transformer character has the ability to shrink down to the size of a mini-cassette, why would it need to bother "disguising" itself in the first place? Optimus Prime could just shrink down to the size of a matchbox, stash himself somewhere under a rock, and wait for action. Or hey, he and the other troops could set up camp inside Raindance before he shrinks down, and enjoy the plush leather seats and mini-bar. And why stop there? If you shrink far enough, eventually you would reach the point where you could replace Cybertron with a medium-sized disco ball. It could be that the toy designers and writing staff realized that Raindance was shooting a few too many holes in their whole premise, and conveniently "lost" the mold. I guess we'll never know!
